Warner Bros. has announced that Matt Reeves’ The Batman will be coming to HBO Max next week. The latest installment following the caped crusader was a massive box office hit and has been the source material that will be bringing us multiple spinoffs in the future with Colin Farrell‘s the Penguin getting a greenlit spinoff series at the streamer. Paul Dano‘s The Riddler has also gotten a year one comic from DC Comics that will give the actor the opportunity to revisit his character as the writer of the series. The film starred Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman and if you missed the film, you will get your chance at the streamer in a week.
Check out the film’s official synopsis here:
“When a killer targets Gotham City’s elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World’s Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters such characters as Selina Kyle, The Penguin, Carmine Falcone, and The Riddler. As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans becomes clear, The Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.”
The film has grossed $735M worldwide at the box office and although not connected to the current DCEU, the Reeves-directed film that was inspired by films from Alfred Hitchcock films and Zodiac has exceeded DC fans’ expectations and made it one of the biggest blockbusters of 2022 so far. The screenplay of The Batman was co-written by Reeves with Peter Craig. Starring alongside Pattinson, Farrell, and Dano are Zoë Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, Peter Sarsgaard, Jayme Lawson, and Andy Serkis.
The Batman will debut on HBO Max on April 18th, 2022, followed by an HBO premiere on April 23rd.
