Adam Project Star Walker Scobell Cast in Percy Jackson Disney+ Series

Disney has announced that their upcoming Percy Jackson series coming to Disney+ has found its leading star as Walker Scobell takes on the series leading role. Based on the novel Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan, the series will follow 12-year-old Percy Jackson in a modern-day tale than finds him discovering he is a demi-god and the son of the Greek God Poseidon. His character is described as:

“A smart and compassionate kid with a sharp sense of humor. He’s always seen himself as an outsider, in no small part because of how the world sees his ADHD and dyslexia. He’s impulsive and rambunctious and is quick to anger when things seem unfair to him. But beneath his cynicism is an affectionate son and loyal friend who just wants to do right by those he cares about. If only he could find a place where he fits in.”

The series will be adapting The Lightning Thief which is the first novel in the series. Percy Jackson travels across the U.S. with his friends by his side as he attempts to clear his name and bring order back to Mount Olympus after standing accused of stealing Zeus’s master lightning bolt. He takes on the journey while coming to terms with the discovery of his Greek God lineage.

Scobell recently made his film debut alongside Ryan Reynolds in the Netflix original film The Adam Project. The film found immense success with it nabbing a spot on the streamer’s Top 10 list and racking up over 92M hours watched in its premiere weekend. He is set to appear in the upcoming Paramount film Secret Headquarters, which is currently filming with a planned release in theaters on August 5th, 2022.

Riordan will be writing the pilot episode for the series alongside Jon Steinberg who will also oversee the project alongside producer Dan Shotz. The pilot episode will be helmed by James Bobin. Steinberg, Shotz, and Riordan will also serve as executive producers alongside Rebecca Riordan, Bert Salke, Monica Owusu-Breen, Jim Rowe, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell, and D.J. Goldberg. The series is set to begin shooting this June.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians will premiere exclusively on Disney+ but does not currently have a release date. Stay tuned for more updates.
