Yellowjackets Renewed for Season 3 Ahead of Season 2 Premiere
Showtime has announced that Yellowjackets has been renewed for season 3 ahead of its season 2 premiere. The series has been one of its most successful series on the network as of late and they have now shown full faith in the series by greenlighting its future for another season. The series premiered in late 2021, was met with praise from fans and critics, and even earned a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes and earned seven Emmy nominations.
The series documents the events of a plane crash over Canada with a high school girl’s soccer team on board. Telling the story of their survival and the effects of the events that transpired while they survived in the woods for nineteen months. The series follows the survivors across two timelines and what happened in the woods and how some of them made it out and how some didn’t is shrouded in a perfectly webbed mystery that kept fans glued to their seats as the first season averaged over five million weekly viewers.
President/CEO of Showtime and Paramount Media Networks, Chris McCarthy talks about the decision to fast-track the third season of the series, saying:
“With Yellowjacket’s runaway success in season one and the pent-up anticipation for season two, we wanted to maximize the momentum by fast tracking season three now.” He continued, saying that “[t]he show’s ambition is only exceeded by its execution, and I thank the incredible creative team behind it, including Ashley, Bart, Jonathan, eOne and the SHOWTIME team, for turning this into such a success.”
The series stars Melanie Lynskey, Ella Purnell, Sophie Nelisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher, Samantha Hanratty, Steven Krueger, Warren Kole, Courtney Eaton, Liv Hewson, Keeya King, Kevin Alves, Alexa Barajas, Juliette Lewis, Christina Ricci, and Tawny Cypress. The series was created by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson.
