Magma Comix Kicks Off 2024 with The Principles of Necromancy and Silicon Bandits Series

Magma Comix is gearing up for an exciting start to 2024 with the release of two new captivating series: The Principles of Necromancy and Silicon Bandits.

The Principles of Necromancy

In this macabre series, the talented duo of Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing, known for their work on Outsiders, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Star Trek, make a triumphant return to creator-owned comics.

Teaming up with the evocatively horrific artist Eamon Winkle, each issue of The Principles of Necromancy boasts a variant cover by the renowned Jana Heidersdorf of Dark Souls fame.

The series unfolds in a world driven by reason and medicine, where the City King has pushed the barbarian hordes to the fringes of civilization. However, amidst the dark woods where ancient pagan traditions still thrive, a solitary harbinger of modernity endeavors to defy death itself.

Meet Doctor Jakob Eyes, the world’s pioneering necromancer, whose relentless pursuit of medical miracles defies conventional wisdom.

Kelly and Lanzing, the co-creators of this series, shared their insight into the project:

“The Principles of Necromancy is our first creator-owned comics series since 2016. It stemmed from our shared desire to craft a fantasy narrative while engaging in extensive conversations about the interpretation of magic in such settings.

We delved into the enigmatic persona of a doctor in our own reality – a figure one hopes never to require – and envisioned transforming that character into an iconic, wizard-like figure in a world devoid of traditional magic.

For those familiar with our work at Marvel and DC, we believe that The Principles of Necromancy will feel like a natural progression. It encapsulates our character-driven horror akin to One Bad Day: Clayface intertwined with the peculiar poignancy and surreal world-building from Guardians of the Galaxy.

Nevertheless, this is a world unlike any we’ve previously explored – more akin to Conan or Berserk than our creator-owned ventures like Joyride. It’s an entirely new experience for Hivemind, and we’re thoroughly enjoying its creation.”

Prepare for the release of The Principles of Necromancy #1 this coming April!

Silicon Bandits

The dynamic collaboration between crime novelist and comic author Jason Starr and artist Dalibor Talajić resumes in the mesmerizing tale of Silicon Bandits. Each installment of this gripping series features a variant cover by the acclaimed Goran Parlov known for their contributions to The Punisher.

Set in a not-so-distant future marred by widespread unemployment caused by automation, our protagonists Kenji and Aurora find themselves abruptly dismissed from their seemingly secure careers as programmers. Faced with this dire turn of events, the couple devises a daring scheme: assembling the ultimate crew for a heist comprised of androids they themselves programmed.

What ensues is a flawless spree of criminal exploits… until the devastating emergence of betrayal and sentience!

Jason Starr, the series writer, sheds light on the narrative:

“Like a lot of people, I’m fascinated by artificial intelligence and all of the ethical and legal issues the tech raises, and I felt that telling a crime story with android criminals would be an exciting and compelling way into exploring these themes.”

With Silicon Bandits, Starr aims to capture the essence of “Blade Runner meets Ocean’s Eleven”, a sentiment echoed by artist Dalibor Talajić:

“You might say I am the William Shatner of comics. Put me on anything and I’ll have the time of my life doing it.”

Keep an eye out for Silicon Bandits #1, available for preorder ahead of its release this April!
