Star Wars Disney+ Series The Acolyte Casts Squid Game Star Lee Jung-jae in Lead Role
Reports have stated that Disney+‘s upcoming Star Wars series The Acolyte has cast Squid Game star Lee Jung-jae in a lead role alongside previously cast Amandla Steinberg and Jodie Turner-Smith. Jung-jae will take on the male lead in the series that takes us back to a galaxy far, far away in the events set centuries prior to Episode I: The Phantom Menace during The High Republic era that saw the Jedi Order in its prime.
The High Republic era has been expanding as of late through novels and comic books which have focused on the period at its peak and the upcoming series will possibly discuss its end.
Jung-jae also led the cast of another streaming service’s breakout hit in Netflix‘s Squid Game. The South Korean series saw many people in financial need being pulled into a high-stakes game show type competition centered around popular children’s games with one twist, all the games played were life and death stakes.
Jung-jae brought heart to the series which had millions of viewers behind their corner rooting for them throughout the series and the worldwide success has led Netflix to double down on Squid Game with a game show series in the works based around Squid Game and the second season of Squid Game also in the works.
The Acolyte is in development at Lucasfilm by Leslye Headland who has only released a nugget of plot information as they keep the plot details under wraps with Headland previously stating that the series will explain how a Sith Lord infiltrated the Senate with the Jedi Order unaware of the dangers happening in front of them.
The Acolyte does not currently have a release date but will release exclusively on Disney+. Stay tuned as more information becomes available.
