Resident Evil Trailer Reveals Netflix’s Undead Dystopia
Netflix has unleashed a teaser trailer for the upcoming live-action adaptation of Resident Evil. The series will be based on the iconic survival horror video game franchise and while fans got a taste of Raccoon City in Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, Netflix is looking to take fans back into the zombie-filled madness in the latest adaptation of the video game series.
Following Jade Wesker, daughter of longtime Resident Evil antagonist, Albert Wesker. The series could interestingly enough be telling a dual timeline story. Quite possibly also hinting at a time jump but we will have to wait and see. We see Jade and her sister Billie moving in with their family in the iconic location of Raccoon City as the secrets of the Umbrella Corporation begin to surface.
We then are taken to 2036 where we see Jade now in a zombified wasteland created by the infamous T-Virus. Jade now works to uncover the mystery of what happened to her sister while surviving the apocalypse.
Netflix’s official description of Resident Evil reads:
“Year 2036 – 14 years after a deadly virus caused a global apocalypse, Jade Wesker fights for survival in a world overrun by the blood-thirsty infected and insane creatures. In this absolute carnage, Jade is haunted by her past in New Raccoon City, by her father’s chilling connections to the Umbrella Corporation but mostly by what happened to her sister, Billie.“
The series stars Lance Reddick, Ella Balinska, Tamara Smart, Paola Nuñez, Siena Agudong, and Adeline Rudolph. Serving as producer and showrunner will be Andrew Dabb with Mary Leah Sutton, Robert Kulzer, and Oliver Berben executive producing.
With Netflix‘s latest adaptation, it joins a long line of adaptations that includes Paul W.S. Anderson‘s six-film series that starred Milla Jovovich as well as the Johannes Roberts directed Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City along with many animated entries that includes Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness housed at Netflix. It will be interesting to see a breath of fresh air being breathed into the franchise with the series adaptation’s story being told.
Resident Evil will premiere exclusively on Netflix on July 14th, 2022. Check out the teaser trailer below:
