Renfield Trailer Gives Fans First Look at Nicolas Cage’s Dracula Raising Hell in Horror Comedy
Universal Pictures has unveiled the first trailer for Renfield. The upcoming horror comedy has been on many fans’ radars since the announcement that Nicholas Hoult and Nicolas Cage would be headlining the film. The trailer sheds light on the movie’s story as we see Dracula’s notable familiar in a modern-day struggle of living under the shadow of Dracula and tending to his every need for decades. As he crosses paths with a traffic cop named Rebecca (Awkwafina), we see the ridiculous events unfold as he looks to step away from the employ of his master.
The film’s official description reads:
“In this modern monster tale of Dracula’s loyal servant, Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Fury Road, X-Men franchise) stars as Renfield, the tortured aide to history’s most narcissistic boss, Dracula (Oscar® winner Nicolas Cage). Renfield is forced to procure his master’s prey and do his every bidding, no matter how debased. But now, after centuries of servitude, Renfield is ready to see if there’s a life outside the shadow of The Prince of Darkness. If only he can figure out how to end his codependency.”
Starring alongside Cage, Hoult, and Awkwafina will be Ben Schwartz, Adrian Martinez, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Bess Rouss, and James Moses Black. The film was directed by Chris McKay with Robert Kirkman, David Alpert, Bryan Furst, Sean Furst, and McKay producing. Samantha Nisenboim executive produced the film.
The film has plenty of draw from the cast alone and it earned itself an R-rating which indicates it will likely not stick to a straight comedic feel. The film looks to bring comedy, horror, romance, and drama into its production, and Cage previously even noted his inspiration for Dracula drew heavily from Count Orlok in Nosferatu. Regardless, the trailer looks fun and humorous, and I am sure it will be bloody given the rating this film has easily become a top anticipated film for us.
Renfield will be unleashed in theaters on April 14, 2023.
