Peacemaker Tries Hard!: DC Announces Peacemaker Black Label Solo Series Featuring an Adorable Sidekick

DC Comics has announced a brand-new Black Label limited series titled Peacemaker Tries Hard!. The new series will see the once-obscure character in the DC Comics library take the spotlight once again as Christopher Smith/Peacemaker paves his own path and leaves the Suicide Squad to go solo, well almost. He will bring a four-legged sidekick to accompany him on this new venture.

  • Peacemaker Tries Hard Movie Variant
  • Peacemaker Tries Hard 1 Open to Order Variant Hipp
  • Peacemaker Tries Hard 1 Open Order Foil Battle
  • Peacemaker Tries Hard 1 Open Order Barends
  • Peacemaker Tries Hard 1 1 50 Di Meo
  • Peacemaker Tries Hard Main Cover 1

The six-issue limited series from the mature line of DC Comics launches this May with creators Kyle Starks, Steve Pugh, and Jordie Bellaire bringing the series to life and will feature an array of variant covers from some of the biggest names in comics including Dan Hipp, Kris Anka, Eric Battle, Simone di Meo, and Björn Barends.

DC Comics‘ description of Peacemaker Tries Hard! reads:

“Having earned his release from the Suicide Squad, Peacemaker wants to try and do normal superhero stuff for a change. Unfortunately everyone, including the bad guys, thinks he sucks at superhero stuff. But when busting up a terrorist ring introduces Christopher Smith to the cutest thing to ever walk (awkwardly) on four legs, he finds the unconditional love he’s been denied his whole life.

That is, until the dog is kidnapped right out from under him by a super-villain who has some very un-super-heroic plans for Peacemaker’s brand of ultraviolence. Will he help an infamously unstable super-powered criminal steal the world’s most valuable and dangerous DNA? Honestly, Christopher’s pretty lonely, so it probably just depends on how nicely they ask..”

Peacemaker has shot to stardom since he was portrayed in James Gunn‘s The Suicide Squad and played by John Cena. The character had a pivotal role in the film and it led to a spinoff solo series on HBO Max that saw Cena reprise the role with some returning characters from the film which delivered one of the best opening sequences to a TV series we may ever see. The series also further solidified the love for the character and quickly earned him a second season which is on the way. With a character that is convinced he will kill anyone in the name of peace, a Black Label solo series seems very appropriate.

This will be the character’s second outing into the Black Label line as the previously released Peacemaker: Disturbing the Peace #1 one-shot issue gave us insight into the character’s psyche and his disturbing and tragic origin story. The character relishes in violence and gore and a level of adult humor that is befitting of Peacemaker only and this should all be spotlighted in the new limited series.

Peacemaker: Tries Hard! #1 will be available at your favorite local comic shop and digitally in May 2023.
