Millenium Media has announced a Hellboy reboot is in the works titled Hellboy: The Crooked Man. The upcoming reboot looks to expand the world of the comic character, with the film using one of the comic series’ most beloved issues as its inspiration. Deadline reports that the film will be helmed by Brian Taylor and even more importantly, the script is penned by the creator of the Hellboy universe himself, Mike Mignola alongside Chris Golden.

This is Mignola’s first venture into scripting a Hellboy film script. What he did have a big hand in was Hellboy: The Crooked Man which was a comic issue that was released in 2008 right alongside Hellboy II: The Golden Army. The comic follows Hellboy and a rookie agent from BPRD which leads them to be stranded in a 1950s Appalachian communicty haunted by witches under the lead of a local devil who is connected to Hellboy’s past.

Millennium Media’s President Jeffrey Greenstein shares that the upcoming film will captivate audiences in both new and familiar ways, saying:

“The Crooked Man is a departure from all previous Hellboy films where Mike Mignola and the creator of the comics will finally shepherd an authentic version of his stories and characters in film form. This is the first in the series of films that will captivate audiences in familiar (and new) ways. Brian Taylor is an expert across the board, and I couldn’t think of a better person to bring this story to life to show our audience this different and original Hellboy slate of films.”

The film is currently looking for potential distributors and will be a return to the screen for Hellboy‘s previous runs in film with Ron Perlman playing the character twice in the 2004 and 2008 films and the latest entry being David Harbour‘s portrayal of Hellboy in the 2019 film. Whether either of these actors is attached to the film is unlikely although not entirely out of the question. Both actors brought a faithful take on the popular character but it would be VERY interesting to see a brand-new name take the lead into this new venture.

Stay tuned as more information on Hellboy: The Crooked Man becomes available.
