Upstream Arcade and Good Shepherd Entertainment have revealed a new roguelite action game that is set to bring Mike Mignola’s comic book world to life titled Hellboy Web of Wyrd. The reveal came with a trailer at The Game Awards that gave us a look at the melee combat showing the devilish hero dropping his hammer fist on enemies.

Dark Horse‘s description of Web of Wyrd reads:

“Built in 1962 by occultist Pasquale Deneveaux, The Butterfly House is more than a mere residence; it’s a gateway. Its perverse angles and non-Euclidean geometries were designed with a singular foul purpose in mind: to open doorways into a terrible and fascinating dimension
called The Wyrd.

Twenty years later, an agent of the B.P.R.D. is sent on a reconnaissance mission to the mansion and promptly goes missing. It’s up to you – Hellboy – and your team of Bureau agents to find your missing colleague and uncover the secrets of The Butterfly House.

During the investigation, you will explore wondrous and strange planes of existence contained within The Wyrd, each one home to powerful monsters, forgotten godforms, magnificent treasures, and powerful secrets. But be warned, because ancient evil stagnates within the furthest reaches of The Wyrd… evil that is eager to be let out.”

The press release also revealed some of the key features that will be featured in Web of Wyrd. Check them out below:

  • An Authentic Comic Adaptation: Experience gripping storytelling, visuals, and atmosphere that evoke the distinct style of the original comics, crafted in collaboration with series creator Mike Mignola. Every moment looks and feels like it was ripped right from the comics.
  • A New Story Inspired by the Hellboy Universe: Unravel a sprawling, spine-tingling original adventure true to the spirit of the comics and brought to life with the illustrious voice of Lance Reddick as Hellboy.
  • Become the Legendary Hellboy: Explore the secret depths of the Wyrd, discovering wonders and terrors beyond your imagination. Chain together hard-hitting melee and ranged attacks in challenging combat against a nightmarish menagerie of otherworldly monsters to survive.

This should be an enticing adventure for both fans of video games and comics alike as it clashes both the adventurous and action-packed intensity of a roguelite title with the visually stunning world Mignola has created in the classic Hellboy comics which makes the game even more enticing.
