New Street Fighter Live-Action Movie Announced
Legendary Entertainment has announced a new Street Fighter live-action movie is in the works. The hadoukens will soon be flying across the big screen once again as Legendary has nabbed the rights to the classic fighting video game franchise. This is only the beginning as Legendary is reportedly planning a slate of Street Fighter-related projects.
Legendary is mum on the details of the film but one thing they made clear is that they will collaborate directly with Capcom on the film who will receive co-producer credits on the film. With the film moving forward and a cast and production team set to be handpicked, Legendary also secured the television rights to Street Fighter which points to an expansive look at the Street Fighter universe although no TV projects were announced.
Street Fighter has been a household name in the fighting video game community since the 1980s and continues to be featured in many fighting tournaments and also continues to headline video game headlines yearly with new releases and with already 49M copies sold, we still have more to look forward to with the newly announced Street Fighter 6.
Many of us have seen attempts at adapting the video game for both big and small screens with the most notable being the 1994 live-action film starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, Damien Chapa, Ming-Na Wen, and Kylie Minogue. Although making a profit at the box office, fans stand divided on the film. The second most notable adaptation is the 2009 film Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li starring. Kristen Kreuk, Chris Klein, and Michael Clarke Duncan.
Stay tuned as more information about Legendary’s plans for Street Fighter is revealed.
