Game of Thrones Prequel Film and Series Announced and Fast Tracked at HBO
The Game of Thrones universe is set to expand even further as a Game of Thrones prequel film and series has been announced and fast-tracked at HBO. Off the heels of the phenomenal success of House of the Dragon, more projects are coming from the work of George R.R. Martin. According to a report from Variety, a project following Aegon I Targaryen’s conquest of Westeros is being discussed as well as a feature film.
These projects are still in very early stages as ideas are being discussed but it’s no doubt that HBO has full faith in the franchise as they have garnered years of success and a fan base from the projects. They are currently looking for a writer and reportedly plan to produce a feature film that would then lead into the potential series.
Aegon’s story is familiar to those who have read Martin’s work as he and his sister wives conquered six of the seven kingdoms in Westeros. The events took place 300 years before the original series and launched the Targaryen dynasty with Aegon I as the first king of Westeros.
As HBO continues to put its chips on one of its most popular and successful properties. We continue to benefit from the vast world that Martin has built with countless projects seemingly in the works at all times around Game of Thrones’ countless stories. House of the Dragon has reinvigorated fans’ thirst for dragons as the series starring Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, and Olivia Cooke gave fans an exhilarating series with phenomenal performances from the entire cast.
House of the Dragon season 2 is in the works with a planned 2024 premiere and a Jon Snow-led series taking place after the events of the original series with Kit Harrington set to reprise his role.
Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon is available to stream on HBO Max. Stay tuned as more information becomes available on the upcoming projects.
