New M3GAN Trailer Ups the Creep Factor as the Killer AI Doll Prepares to Invade the Big Screen Next Month
Universal Pictures has unleashed a new and equally nightmarish trailer for the upcoming horror film M3GAN. The film comes from James Wan who has written and directed horror hits such as The Conjuring and Insidious. The trailer takes us deeper down the rabbit hole of what the killer AI doll will unleash on its victims and traumatize viewers in the process.
In M3GAN, we will see the dark fears that many feel when thinking of artificial intelligence or technological advancements. A life-like doll is developed that uses AI to adapt and learn about its new companions. The doll’s creator attempts to use the doll to help her niece and protect her from any physical and emotional harm. As you can expect, this goes horribly wrong when the AI starts to become a little overprotective and responds to seeming threats with violence and malice.
The film’s synopsis reads:
“When Gemma suddenly becomes the caretaker of her orphaned 8-year-old niece, Cady (Violet McGraw, The Haunting of Hill House), Gemma’s unsure and unprepared to be a parent. Under intense pressure at work, Gemma decides to pair her M3GAN prototype with Cady in an attempt to resolve both problems—a decision that will have unimaginable consequences.”
M3GAN is played by Amie Donald with Jenna Davis voicing the character. The film also stars Allison Williams, Violet McGraw, Ronny Chieng, Brian Jordan Alvarez, Jen Van Epps, Lori Dungey, and Stephan Garneau-Monten. The is produced by James Blum and Wan with Gerard Johnstone helming the film from a screenplay written by Akela Cooper.
Killer dolls are popular in the horror genre with Child’s Play Chucky, The Conjuring universe’s Annabelle, The Boy featured a terrifyingly realistic doll as well, and many more. M3GAN looks to have these other possessed dolls rolling over in their grave by bringing a next-level form of nightmare fuel in the AI gone bad film.
Your worst nightmare comes to life when M3GAN premieres in theaters on January 13th, 2023.
