Alice, Darling Trailer Reveals Pulse-Pounding Film That Will Plague You With Anxiety
Lionsgatehas revealed a trailer for the upcoming psychological thriller film Alice, Darling. The film introduces us to Alice ( Anna Kendrick) in what appears to be a film set to induce heavy levels of anxiety in the viewer as Alice shows signs of being in a psychologically abusive relationship that is much more than unhealthy and could prove to be a danger for Alice and her friends when they find themselves under the same roof with her abusive boyfriend Simon (Charlie Carrick).
Lionsgate’s official synopsis reads:
“In the taut thriller ALICE, DARLING, Oscar® nominee Anna Kendrick (Best Supporting Actress, Up in the Air, 2009) stars as a woman pushed to the breaking point by her psychologically abusive boyfriend, Simon.
While on vacation with two close girlfriends, Alice rediscovers the essence of herself and gains some much-needed perspective. Slowly, she starts to fray the cords of codependency that bind her. But Simon’s vengeance is as inevitable as it is shattering – and, once unleashed, it tests Alice’s strength, her courage, and the bonds of her deep-rooted friendships.”
As a birthday trip upstate is quickly revealed. The layered tension that the trailer delivers gives us a glimpse of the troubles that lie under the surface. With Alice initially practicing her white lie as she prepares to tell her boyfriend instead of explaining the plans she has made with her friends, we see that things are not all well.
As all begins normally with the group of friends enjoying some girl time, the tone of the situation quickly changes when Simon discovers her work trip was really a trip with her friends. Throughout the trailer we see things becoming tenser and the trailer induces crippling anxiety as it cuts from scenes of the escalating situation to Alice nervously pulling her hair out. It doesn’t take long to see the danger that lies here and I fear this is only the beginning.
Starring alongside Kendrick and Carrick will be Kaniehtiio Horn, Wunmi Mosaku, and Mark Winnick. The film was helmed by Mary Nighy from a script penned by Alanna Francis.
Alice, Darling will premiere in select Los Angeles theaters on December 30, 2022, and get a full theater release on January 20, 2023.
