Fandango Poll Reveals the Top 5 Most Anticipated Horror Movies of 2023

Fandango recently took to their fans to find out what horror movies are at the top of their list next year and they revealed the top 5 most anticipated horror movies of 2023. As we near the end of 2022 which proved to be an excellent year for the horror genre with films such as X, Barbarian, Pearl, The Sadness, Terrifier 2, The Black Phone, Nope, and the list goes on and on. 2023 is gearing up to be another excellent year for the genre and Fandango let the fan’s voices be heard to tell us what films stand out against the rest.
The poll of over 5,000 fans broke it down to some highly-anticipated sequels and reboots with the exception of a film that caught everyone’s attention when they released a trailer featuring an extremely disturbing tale of an A.I. gone rogue. Their social media beef with Chucky further made the film a sensation to follow and with its release in early 2023, many eyes are on the film.
Check out the top 5 most anticipated horror films below:

1. Salem’s Lot
Short of the previous adaptations and the fact that this is what he hope to be another phenomenal adaptation of the works of horror icon Stephen King, we don’t know much about the adaptation. This is surely what is fueling the intrigue of the film and landing it at the top of the list. We know that the story follows a small town that is overtaken by vampires and follows the protagonist who returns to Jerusalem’s Lot.
We saw an adaptation centered in this universe in Epix‘s Chapelwaite but the mystery shrouding this project has surely made many fans of King and horror alike keep an eye on this project as we await for any inkling of what’s to come.

2. Insidious 5
Insidious has not seen an entry in the franchise for 5 years now since the release of Insidious: The Last Key. Probably the most exciting part of this upcoming entry is Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne reprising their roles from the original two films in the franchise. The Lambert family finds itself at the forefront once again after the horrifying experiences they were subjected to.
Wilson has also stepped up to helm the upcoming project which is sure to further cement his involvement in this new story and any possible future projects featuring the Lambert family. The film will catch up with the Lambert family 10 years after the second installment with Dalton now beginning his life at college.

3. The Exorcist
The reboot of what is arguably still one of the most horrifying films today and still regarded as a top film within the horror genre in many aspects, many installments since, including a series based on The Exorcist have failed to possess fans to share the excitement they felt when we first witnessed the true battle of good vs evil.
This new entry might just be the golden goose as David Gordon Green looks to bring the same magic he brought to Halloween as he revisited the battle between one of the greatest slashers of our time and the ultimate final girl when he provided his continuation of Michael Myers and Laurie Strode’s Halloween saga. He now looks to adapt The Exorcist by delivering a similar formula that will be a direct continuation that focuses on the source material which could once again put The Exorcist at the top of the genre for many years to come.

4. Scream VI
Scream 5 reinvigorated the slasher film that has long been a staple in the horror genre and delivered a franchise that created its own formula that delivered time and time again since the first time fans were taken to Woodsboro and saw final girl Neve Campbell take on Ghost Face. Campbell continued to face the killers that just would not stay dead and created its own niche of slasher films that saw new life when Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett helmed the film that saw Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera becoming the new faces of the franchise as they teamed up with legacy characters from previous films to fend off the resurfacing Ghost Face killer… or killers.
In what was a sort of passing of the torch, due mostly to the unfortunate news that Campbell had failed to reach an agreeable agreement with the studio to return for Scream VI, Ortega and Barrera will now face their killer in one of the most crowded and lively cities in the U.S. as they head to New York City. The teaser recently revealed a taste of their encounter with Ghost Face which puts them at the tip of the knife in the big apple with returning faces from previous films to new faces that may or may not survive another sequel.

5. M3GAN
This film caught the entire world by surprise when it dropped its haunting trailer. Showing fans a robotics engineer at a toy company builds a life-like doll for her niece in order to provide emotional support and protect her physical well-being. This all takes a sinister turn when the doll known as M3gan takes a life of its own and takes its mission to protect Cady to deadly levels. The trailer shows M3gan slowly becoming unhinged and will protect Cady from threats she identifies.
