Martha Is Dead Video Game Getting a Film Adaptation

The highly regarded psychological thriller video game Martha Is Dead is set to receive a film adaptation, as announced in a press release. The film is currently in active development and is a collaborative effort between LKA, the publisher Wired Productions, and Studios Extraordinaires.

André Hedetoft and Andreas Troedsson, both from Studios Extraordinaires, will co-direct the movie, with Hedetoft taking on the role of the scriptwriter and Troedsson as the cinematographer.

According to Luca Dalcò, the Founder and Director of LKA, who also serves as the writer and designer for Martha Is Dead, every aspect of the game was meticulously crafted with a cinematic quality in mind, making the transition to film particularly exciting. The narrative complexity and visual elements of the game are expected to be brought to life in a remarkable way on the big screen.

Martha Is Dead, which was released on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Amazon Luna in 2022, is set in the Italian countryside during the closing stages of World War 2. Players take on the role of Giulia, a young woman unraveling the mystery surrounding the death of her twin sister, Martha.

Martha Is Dead made headlines after its release due to a controversial scene that was eventually removed from the release of the game on PlayStation consoles. The game depicts some graphic nature to add to its horror undertones which will make for an interesting venture as it moves onto the silver screen.

This adaptation adds to the recent trend of video game adaptations gaining traction, with several high-profile projects in the pipeline, including the Fallout TV series, Eli Roth‘s Borderlands film, Chad Stahelski‘s Ghost of Tsushima adaptation, the recently announced Death Stranding film, Jason Momoa‘s Minecraft project, and the upcoming Legend of Zelda adaptation from Nintendo.
