A24 Joins Kojima Productions For Death Stranding Film Adaptation
Hideo Kojima revealed about a year ago his plans to bring his highly acclaimed game Death Stranding to the big screen through a partnership with Barbarian executive producer Alex Lebovici‘s Hammerstone Studios. Now, exciting news has emerged as A24 has joined forces with Kojima Productions to help bring the Death Stranding adaptation to life.

A24 themselves made the announcement, sharing the news on X. To celebrate the occasion, they unveiled a collection of new shirts featuring the A24 logo in a Death Stranding style. The involvement of A24 in the project adds even more anticipation and intrigue to the upcoming film.
In response to the announcement, Kojima expressed his excitement in a press release, stating:
“A24 was born into this world about 10 years ago, and their presence is truly unique within the industry. The films they deliver are of high quality and incredibly innovative. I have been drawn to their creations, and they have even inspired my own work.
Their innovative storytelling approach aligns with what Kojima Productions has been striving for over the past eight years. Now, we are partnering with A24 to create a Death Stranding movie together.”
Kojima further emphasized that their goal is not simply to create a direct translation of the game, but to craft a cinematic experience that appeals to both fans of the game and anyone who appreciates great storytelling. He envisions the Death Stranding film as an opportunity to reveal a never-before-seen universe that can only be fully realized through the medium of film.

Since its release in 2019 on the PlayStation 4, Death Stranding has sold an impressive 10 million copies across PlayStation and PC, while also receiving numerous accolades. The game boasts an all-star cast including Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, Léa Seydoux, Guillermo del Toro, and Margaret Qualley.
The story revolves around courier Sam Porter Bridges (portrayed by Reedus) as he embarks on a mission to deliver hope and reconnect the fragments of a shattered America.

The collaboration between Kojima Productions, Hammerstone Studios, and A24 holds the promise to deliver an extraordinary Death Stranding film. This is a big task they have taken on as video game adaptations are not normally well received but with HBO’s The Last of Us and the promising looks at Prime Video’s Fallout, the tides may be turning on these adaptations.
Could Death Stranding be the next successful video game adaptation on the horizon?
