God of War Live-Action Series Gets Official Order at Prime Video
Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions previously announced they were working on developing the hit video games series God of War into a live-action series. Prime Video has now officially announced that the God of War live-action series will get a series order.
Video game adaptations are risky business but fans can’t help but be excited at the possibility of seeing Kratos in live-action. Amazon did offer some details on where they will begin Kratos’s journey and to no surprise, the journey will start with the 2018 entry from Santa Monica Studios which saw Kratos leave his life and battle against the ancient Greek gods behind to live a peaceful life.
The game saw an aged and battle-ridden Kratos who lost his wife Faye and leads a life alongside his son Atreus in the Norse realm. As they look to fulfill her final wish of scattering her ashes from atop the highest peak, Kratos’s past life soon catches the eye of new foes and leads them into a dangerous journey that leaves Kratos no choice but to wield a weapon once again to face a new realm, with new gods.
Rafe Judkins (The Wheel of Time) will serve as showrunner on the series with Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby writing the series and executive producing alongside Cory Barlog.
President of Sony Pictures Television, Katherine Pope shared the excitement of this new collaboration, writing:
“We are so proud and excited to be working with our friends at Amazon Studios and our partners at PlayStation Productions to adapt this beautiful and heartbreaking game into a premium live-action series. Rafe, Mark and Hawk are crafting a transportive series that charts a path through the ancient mythological journey of Kratos.”
Head of PlayStation Productions Asad Qizilbash added:
“God of War is one of PlayStation’s most awarded video games, so we’re excited to partner with Sony Pictures Television and Amazon Studios to bring our beloved franchise to fans and new audiences in a bold and authentic way.”

God of War is one of the most innovative and influential video game series to this day since it first saw life in 2005. Having received positive reviews for every entry since its first launch and becoming a notable title and universe that fans across the entire fandom recognize, the title with just released its most recent entry in God of War: Ragnarok which is likely to play a role in the future of the series as it continues to pave the way for Kratos and Atreus’s journey.
