Five Nights at Freddy’s Trailer Brings the Animatronic Nightmare Video Game to Life

Universal Pictures and Blumhouse have revealed the Five Nights at Freddy’s trailer which is set to bring the beloved horror video game to life with Josh Hutcherson and Matthew Lillard starring in the live-action adaptation feature film. The video game’s cinematic adaptation has been in the works for quite some time with multiple delays slowing down production on the film but we finally get a short teaser of what we can expect and for those of you who have spent nights working at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza as the evil animatronics haunt the locale, well you should be very pleased with what they cooked up for us.

The trailer introduces us to Mike (Hutcherson) who will be the new security guard at the famed pizza joint and of course, he is tasked with the night shift and much like the game that we all spent countless hours playing, he is tasked with making sure everything remains as it should be but we know that Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza is not your everyday pizza place and holds much more than meets the eye. As mysterious occurrences are all tied to a group of missing children in the area and all clues lead to a possible connection between this unsolved disappearance and the horrors happening at Freddy Fazbear’s.

The film was helmed by Emma Tammi with the original game’s creator Scott Cawthon attached to the film. This was actually part of the delay in production as Cawthon has been heavily involved in the writing of the script which caused the delays as he looked over the scripts before the film could begin production and seems things were not headed in the right path but now that we have a teaser trailer, it looks like Cawthon feels we have a narrative that will honor the source material of his creation.

Cawthon penned the screenplay alongside Tammi and Seth Cuddeback. The film also stars Elizabeth Lail, Kat Conner Sterling, Jess Weiss, Jade Kindar-Martin, Kevin Foster, Theodus Crane, Christian Stokes, Piper Rubio, and Bailey Winston. Cawthon also produced the film alongside Jason Blum.

The Five Nights at Freddy’s Story

The game’s release came in 2014 and took the horror genre by storm thanks to its unique but sinister gameplay. The game has often been praised for its deep lore and even then there is still so much we don’t know about the story revolving around this haunting pizza joint. The game shows us that the pizzeria is in despair as a result of tragedies that have been associated with it. This is largely due to the kidnapping and murder of a group of children by the owner of the pizzeria William Afton. The rumor was that the children’s bodies were stuffed in the animatronics, mainly Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy.

As you begin your journey as the nightshift security guard, it becomes apparent that these may be more than rumors as the mascots move freely through the pizzeria, looming closer and closer to you with no good intentions. Your only chance of survival is managing the power supply in the pizzeria by way of doors and lights to prevent the possessed animatronics to get near you. The story has vastly grown as more titles were released including Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 serving as a prequel to the first game.

When it comes to the development of the game, the game’s idea stemmed from Cawthon’s previous game Chipper & Sons Lumber Co. which was a family-friendly title that received negative reactions due to the main character seemingly looking like a “scary animatronic animal”. This spawned the idea that Cawthon then used to create a series of successful horror games that have led to much acclaim, praise, and now the expansion of the universe onto the big screen.

Five Nights at Freddy’s will premiere in theaters and Peacock on October 27, 2023.
