Idaho Falls Retro X is Bringing Pop Culture Fandom to the Intermountain West Area
For most nerds in Eastern Idaho, in order for us to visit some kind of pop culture convention or trade show, we have to drive anywhere from 3-4 hours to meet up with icons from our youth or converse with like-minded fellows of a specific fandom. Brandon Kimball and Phil Langston hope to change all that.
After six months of planning, Idaho Falls Retro X will be making its triumphant debut this weekend, May 20th. It’s a first-of-its-kind event for our area, celebrating pop culture and its various fandoms by bringing them a little closer to home.

Over 20 different vendors from the surrounding intermountain west will be on-site selling vintage and retro collectibles, toys, comics, video games, Funko pops, and so much more! There will also be other vendors there including 3-D printed items, leatherwork, custom lightsabers, whimsical crafts, sports, and non-sports cards, Lego, die cast, and anime!
Kids and fans of all ages will also get to meet Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and several other princesses and superheroes courtesy of Storybook Parties Idaho! Also, the Star Wars costuming group the 501st Legion will be there, represented by the Timberline Garrison!
There will also be an all-ages costume contest with cash prizes awarded in three different age divisions with a grand prize winner receiving $250 cash and a trophy!
Brandon Kimball, one of the co-founders of Idaho Falls Retro X, had this to say about the event:
“Idaho Falls Retro X is hopefully going to be the first of many future events here in Southeast Idaho. We’ve already pre-sold over 100 tickets with individual and family passes combined, and for a first time event, that’s huge!
We want to have events like this for many years to come, and we want to make them bigger and better, but we can’t do that without the support from the community. We have a ton of great vendors coming, and we need to show them some love so they will want to keep coming back year after year.”
General admission is just $5 per person, $20 for a family pass, and $10 for early birds. Retro X is committed to supporting the community and is discounting tickets by $2 each for donations of non-expired canned food items donated to the Idaho Falls Community Food Basket. Donations will be gathered at the time of purchase, and this promotion is limited to tickets bought at the door on the day of the event.
