E3 2022 looks to be continuing its online-only event for another year due to COVID-19 concerns. Although the hope was that after a 2021 online-only event, they could return to an in-person event at the Los Angeles Convention Center, the ongoing pandemic seems to have put a wrench to those plans, and therefore, we will be attending one of the biggest video game conferences virtually once again this year.

In a statement to Venture Beat, posted below, the ESA confirmed that the coronavirus remains a major issue so it’s playing it safe for one more year:

“Due to the ongoing health risks surrounding COVID-19 and its potential impact on the safety of exhibitors and attendees, E3 will not be held in person in 2022. We are nonetheless excited about the future of E3 and look forward to announcing more details soon.”

Since the pandemic started, E3 has been canceled outright in 2020 and the 2021 event went digital in the form of live streams, and digital meetings on their website. We will learn more of what changes we see this year as they build on last year’s digital-only event.
