E3 2022 Is Completely Cancelled Including Digital Event
The E3 Expo has been completely canceled for 2022. IGN reported with confirmation by VentureBeat. The organizers of E3, Entertainment Software Association gave a statement to VentureBeat saying:
“We previously announced that E3 would not be held in person in 2022 due to the ongoing health risks surrounding COVID-19. Today, we announce that there will also be no digital E3 showcase in 2022.”
The announcement that a physical convention would not be happening came a couple of months ago in January and they noted that a digital event would be a possibility. IGN confirmed the contents of an email designated to Razor PR that stated a digital E3 was not going to be happening this year. E3 has not held a physical convention since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic with a 2021 digital-only event taking place that offered trailers and digital booths for media to attend.
The digital event was not a strong showing and this could have been a driving factor in not holding a digital event in 2022. ESA also tells VentureBeat that it plans to “revitalize” E3 in 2023 as “a reinvigorated showcase that celebrates new and exciting video games and industry innovations.”
