Dodgeball Sequel Could Become Reality According to Justin Long
Dodgeball is a timeless comedy film that many fans go back to time and time again. Having been released in 2004, the film easily became one of the great comedy films of its time and even today remains a hilarious, endlessly quotable film. Well, according to an interview between Justin Long and ComicBook.com, Vince Vaughn has also been thinking about the greatness of the film and has a plan for a Dodgeballsequel. Long also noted that they are waiting on Ben Stiller‘s approval who might need a bit of convincing.
Long was one of the stars of the film alongside Vaughn, Stiller, Christine Taylor, Missi Pyle, Rip Torn, Jason Bateman, Hank Azaria, Julie Gonzalo, Lori Beth Denberg, Stephen Root, Alan Tudyk, and Joel David Moore. The officially titled Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story saw Vaughn and Stiller’s competing gyms battling it out in a dodgeball tournament. Vaughn apparently has a “funny idea” for the film but has yet to get Stiller’s input on the pitch.
During the interview, Long shared that Vaughn had the idea for the sequel and that he’d love to return, saying:
“Vince had been telling me that he has this great idea for a sequel,”
“I hope that it ends up happening, but I think Ben is a little, what he told me on that podcast was that he’s a little trepidatious about doing a sequel to something so beloved, something that people enjoy so much that.”
He goes on to say:
“It’s very risky, you don’t wanna s*** on the original, you want something just as good. I think he’s a little wary of that, of trying to recreate something that was very specific to that time, but I hope he comes around on it. Vince is a very convincing person, so I’m just hoping Vince can convince him with his idea. It’s a funny idea, I don’t wanna say what it is.”
Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story was a box office success and although that doesn’t guarantee the sequel would share the shame success or be enough of a reason to move forward with a sequel, Long does recall the joy the cast shared during a reunion in 2017 that included Stiller’s happiness to don the mustache once again, saying:
“I know Ben loves Dodgeball and loves that character. I remember how much fun he had playing it. He was always laughing. When we got together years later to do a little mini reunion for this charity and Ben put on the mustache again, I remember him talking about how how happy it made him playing White Goodman again and how much fun that character was.”

It will remain to be seen if a Dodgeball 2 ever sees life but in the meantime, we can continue to relive the Average Joe’s glory days from the hit 2004 film.
