Death of the Venomverse Welcomes Carnage’s Slayfest During Summer of Symbiotes
Marvel has given fans more information about what’s coming in Death of the Venomverse. Carnage’s slayfest is underway during the ‘Summer of Symbiotes’ which will bring together two superstar creators in writer Cullen Bunn and artist Gerardo Sandoval. The publisher teased a faceoff between Carnage and Knull for the King in Black’s crown but that’s only a piece of what is coming for readers as the event also introduces Extreme Venomverse, Cult of Carnage: Misery, and much more!

This will come to a head in Summer of Symbiotes: Death of the Venomverse which already looks to be an epic showdown between two iconic characters and the event finds itself in good hands with Bunn and Sandoval as we usher in an event that will be exhilarating, non-stop action. Will we see Carnage emerge as the new King in Black? What implications will this have on the Marvel universe if he succeeds? We find out this August!
Marvel’s description of Death of the Venomverse reads:
“Carnage has been building his powers up, extracting unique abilities from many villains throughout the Marvel Universe and now traverses the Multiverse with a singular goal: KILL ANY AND ALL VENOMS!
Throughout Carnage’s savage rampage, fans can expect to see some of their favorite new symbiote charterers that debuted in EXTREME VENOMVERSE along with brand-new ones including a top-secret new symbiote hero who will be revealed at a later date. The limited series will also include a classic tale in the vein of Venom: Lethal Protector by Venom co-creator David Michelinie.”
Bunn shares that it’s been some time since he visited with Venom and company, saying:
“It’s been far too long since I’ve written any stories about Venom and company. About Eddie, about Flash, about Andi, about Carnage. This story–this completely bonkers epic–feels like the right time to throw my symbiotic hat back in the ring. Returning to a multiverse full of Venom symbiotes, maybe (but hopefully not) for the last time, I knew I had to do something big.
Thus, the title—DEATH OF THE VENOMVERSE–was born. Perhaps that title is a bit of a threat for our favorite symbiotes, but I promise you it is not empty! Get ready for plenty of surprises, some heartbreak, and more symbiotes than you can shake a stick at!”
Before Death of the Venomverse, comes Extreme Venomverse & Cult of Carnage
Before the Death of the Venomverse arrives, fans will experience collected stories from superstar creators that will take them to different corners of the symbiote universe. The stories included in the debut issue include:
- Comics superstars Ryan North and Paulo Siqueira put a fresh and exciting spin on a story you may be familiar with…starring Eddie Brock as…SPIDER-MAN?!
- Rising star Mirka Andolfo shows you a side of the whole Brock family you NEVER thought you’d see!
- And one of the best writer/artists in the industry today, Leonardo Romero, reimagines Venom as a Samurai!
Then comes Cult of Carnage: Misery which sees writer Sabir Pirzada and artist Francesco Mortarino spin a tale of Normie Osborn’s mother Liz Allen as she returns home unaware of the identity of the Red Goblin. As the violence and destruction get close to home, Liz uses her resources from ALCHEMAX and thus introduces her to the Marvel Universe as we have never seen before.

Knull is a force to be reckoned with as we have seen before but Carnage is sinister, conniving, and a threat to anyone he sets his sights on. This is a fight that could have long and deep ramifications for the entire Marvel Universe and Death of the Venomverse is the perfect title for something of this magnitude. I absolutely cannot wait to see this unfold!
Death of the Venomverse #1 will be available at your local comic shops and digitally on August 2, 2023.
