Dark Horse’s Night of the Ghoul Gets Movie Deal
Dark Horse Comics‘ Night of the Ghoul was the prize of a competitive pursuit from streamers and film studios which saw 20th Century Studios land the rights to the series from writer Scott Snyder and artist Francesco Francavilla. The film adaptation will be helmed by Rob Savage with 21 Laps‘ Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, and Dan Cohen producing the film.
Savage was at the helm of Shudder‘s horror film Host which saw immense success and praise from both critics and fans. The film was released during the midst of the pandemic and gave viewers a unique and chilling experience with a production unlike any other as they abided by restrictions set forth during the pandemic. 21 Laps is wrapping up its work with the hit Netflix series Stranger Things which is set to premiere its fourth and final season. They are also working on the Ryan Reynolds-led Deadpool 3 that just dropped the bombshell reveal of Hugh Jackman reprising his role of Wolverine for the threequel.
Originally released in digital format as a ComiXology original, Night of the Ghoul just released its first print issue with Dark Horse today. The official description of Night of the Ghoul from Dark Horse reads:
“Shot in 1936, Night of the Ghoul by writer/director T.F. Merritt was meant to sit beside Frankenstein and Dracula as an instant classic . . . But the legendary film never made it to the silver screen. Just before editing was finished, a mysterious studio fire destroyed the footage and killed the cast and crew celebrating at the wrap party.
Forest Inman is a horror film obsessive who digitizes old films for the famed Aurora movie studio. When Forest stumbles across a seemingly forgotten canister of footage, he just might have discovered the remnants of the lost classic Night of the Ghoul. This discovery sends Forest on a dark odyssey, where he is warned by a mysterious old man that the film’s ghoul is far more than a work of fiction: it’s a very real monster who plans to kill him.”
The Night of the Ghoul film adaptation does not have a production or release date at this time but stay tuned as more information becomes available.
