Crystal Dynamics Announces New Tomb Raider Game, Will Be Built on Unreal Engine 5
Crystal Dynamics has announced that they will be developing a new title for the Tomb Raider franchise. Furthermore, the new game will be built on the newly released Unreal Engine 5. The developer made their announcement during today’s State of Unreal 2022 presentation and with development only having just begun, we don’t have an official title or more information on the game to share just yet.
Here is what Crystal Dynamics‘s Tomb Raider franchise general manager Dallas Dickinson had to share:
“Crystal Dynamics is proud to be a part of the launch of unreal engine 5. This new engine translates to next-level storytelling and gameplay experiences. That’s why we are thrilled to announce today that we have just started development of our next Tomb Raider game, powered by Unreal Engine 5. Our goal is to push the envelope of fidelity and to deliver the high-quality, cinematic, action-adventure experience that fans deserve from both Crystal Dynamics and the Tomb Raider franchise.”
The new game will likely continue Lara Croft’s story from the previous trilogy but without information from the developer themselves, this is all speculation. There is an upcoming anime series from Netflix that is looking to bridge the gap between the recent trilogy and the original game entries and with a wide span of Lara Croft adventures, these games could land anywhere in between. Crystal Dynamics has done a superb job with the handling of the games and with the help of Eidos-Montréal, they provided a third entry into the trilogy that is sure to have fans welcoming more adventures regardless of where in the timeline they take place.
Stay tuned as more information becomes available and be sure to check out the announcement video on the official Tomb Raider Twitter page:
