Bad Bunny Drops Out of Spider-Man Spinoff El Muerto, Movie Remains in Development
Bad Bunny has confirmed reports that he will no longer be starring in the Spider-Man spinoff movie, El Muerto. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Bad Bunny mentioned that he doesn’t know what to say about the film and called the situation “delicate.” His publicist then confirmed that he was no longer involved in the project.
However, despite this setback, sources that are close to the production assure fans that El Muerto is still in development. Undoubtedly, the ongoing strikes by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) have caused delays and made it challenging to move forward in casting and other production aspects.
When El Muerto was initially removed from Sony’s release schedule, reports indicated multiple reasons for the decision. One reason was the need for additional work on the script, which could not be done during the ongoing writers’ strike. Additionally, scheduling conflicts with Bad Bunny‘s touring commitments raised doubts about his continued involvement in the project.
The director, Jonás Cuaron, and screenwriter Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, known for his work on Blue Beetle, are still attached to the film. In the comic books, El Muerto is portrayed as the son of a luchador who gains superhuman abilities after inheriting a mystical wrestling mask. He is undoubtedly a character that many of us would love to see more of.
Aside from being a music superstar, Bad Bunny has made multiple appearances in WWE. His last big match pitted him against the Judgement Day‘s Damien Priest at the premium event WWE Backlash. He defeated Priest in a San Juan Street Fight. Bad Bunny was originally slated to host the event in Puerto Rico but after he clashed with Priest and the other members of Judgement Day, he ended up joining the night’s card in a hellacious fight.
It might be a while before any solid updates on El Muerto come our way but in the meantime, Sony does have some films slated for release in the future.
