Blue Giant Trailer Reveals the Jazzy Anime from Mob Psycho 100 Director

Dai Miyamoto will be the protagonist of the upcoming anime Blue Giant. An aspiring jazz musician who dedicates his life to perfecting his saxophone skills. In the trailer released by GKIDS, we get a glimpse into Dai’s journey from his quiet hometown to the vibrant jazz clubs of Tokyo. Determined to become the world’s greatest jazz musician, Dai convinces a talented yet arrogant pianist named Yukinori Sawabe and his best friend, Shunji Tamada, to form a jazz trio with him.

The trailer highlights Dai’s unwavering determination as he practices his saxophone in the snowy streets of Tokyo. Despite facing initial skepticism, Yukinori eventually joins Dai’s band, and Shunji takes on the drums. Together, they are ready to showcase their unique sound to the city’s audiences. However, their journey is far from smooth sailing. The band quickly encounters challenges and conflicts arise, revealing the contrasting ambitions of its members. While Yukinori sees the band as a means to advance his career, Shunji struggles with self-doubt. Nevertheless, Dai remains steadfast in his belief that their unorthodox play style will ultimately win people over.

Blue Giant is adapted from Shinichi Ishizuka‘s manga series of the same name, which achieved worldwide acclaim during its ten-volume run from 2013 to 2016. The manga received several accolades, including the Japan Media Arts Festival Award and the Shogakukan Manga Award. The film adaptation is directed by Yuzuru Tachikawa, known for his work on popular anime series like Death Parade, Mob Psycho 100, and Detective Conan: The Black Iron Submarine. The screenplay is penned by the manga’s original editor, NUMBER 8.
