Wicked Trailer Prepares Us for A Magical Return to Oz

The much-anticipated big-screen adaptation of the beloved Broadway show, Wicked, unveiled its first trailer during Super Bowl LVIII. This dreamy trailer offered a captivating glimpse into the cinematic interpretation of one of the most cherished musicals of recent decades. Notably, the footage provided a tantalizing introduction to some of the iconic music associated with the film.

Set to be a two-part theatrical event, Wicked is scheduled to make its theatrical debut on November 27, 2024, with Wicked: Part Two following on November 26, 2025.

Helmed by Jon M. Chu, the film features an impressive ensemble cast, with Cynthia Erivo portraying Elphaba Thropp, also known as the Wicked Witch of the West, and Ariana Grande taking on the role of Glinda Upland, or Glinda the Good. Additionally, Jonathan Bailey joins as Fiyero Tigelaar, Jeff Goldblum as the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Ethan Later as Boq, and Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible.

This long-awaited trailer marks the first substantial look at the characters and the musical world of Wicked. Derived from the 2003 Broadway musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman, the film draws inspiration from the 1995 Gregory Maguire novel Wicked: The Life and Time of the Wicked Witch of the West.

Serving as a prequel to L. Frank Baum‘s 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and the 1939 film by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, this adaptation promises to captivate audiences with its ambitious goal to adapt one of the most loved stage shows to this day along with the literature work and minds that have influenced all of us for decades.
