Violent Night 2: Stay Off the Naughty List, Santa is Coming Back for a Sequel
Violent Night director recently confirmed that Violent Night 2 is in the works. Tommy Wirkola said during an interview with The Wrap, that the sequel is in active development and will be written by returning writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller. The sleeper Christmas film was a success raking in $75M globally with a budget of $25M.
Wirkola said during the interview:
“We’re talking about it and we’re just making deals and getting everything in order.”
It should be safe to assume that if there are more Christmases to save then David Harbour will likely return as Saint Nick to deliver a painful reminder not to mess with those on the Nice list or the Christmas Spirit. The film sounds to be in early development and Wirkola says during the interview:
“we have time to really crack the script and figure out the story.” “And we have some ideas, me and Pat and Josh and the producers, we’ve been talking about where we want to take it and what we want to see.”
Universal Pictures has not confirmed the sequel officially but with this many wheels turning, it all but confirms that the sequel will happen. Harbour starred as a disheartened Santa Claus who has made the yearly trip quite too many times. When he stumbles into a hostage situation and sees a spark of hope ignited by one of the young hostages. He starts delivering fists instead of coal to all the baddies in sight with a classic action film feel during Christmas time very akin to Die Hard.
Wirkola adds what the sequel could explore with many things left untouched in Violent Night, saying:
“We have time to really crack the script and figure out the story. And we have some ideas, me, Pat and Josh and the producers. We’ve been talking about where we want to take it and what we want to see. There is stuff we left on the floor like the North Pole, Mrs. Claus, the elves, but story-wise I think we have a really, really cool idea that expands on the world and scope, but still keeping that tone that we love from the first one.”
Starring alongside Harbour in Violent Night was Cam Gigandet, John Leguizamo, Alex Hassell, Alexis Leah Brady, Edi Patterson, and Beverly D’Angelo.
Violent Night releases on Blu-Ray and DVD today and will be the perfect time to catch up on the film as development kicks off for the sequel.
