Justin Roiland Dropped By Adult Swim Following Domestic Abuse Charges

Justin Roiland has been dropped by Adult Swim after the Rick and Morty co-creator was charged with felony domestic abuse in Orange County. The network announced that they will be cutting ties with Roiland via a statement released by Adult Swim/Cartoon Network/Boomerang svp of communications Mairie Moore said, “Adult Swim has ended its association with Justin Roiland…”

Roiland served as co-creator and executive producer on Rick and Morty which Adult Swim distributes. The series is by far one of the network’s most prolific properties under its banner but with the seriousness of the implications, that surely outweighed any other measure when the decision was made. There are sources that have said that Roiland’s voice will remain in his roles as they work to recast. Fellow co-creator Dan Harmon will now serve as the sole showrunner on the series that is currently secured through Season 10.

Just 12 days ago, NBC News broke the story announcing that Roiland had been charged with one count of domestic battery with corporal injury and one count of false imprisonment by menace, violence, fraud, or deceit in California stemming from the alleged incident from 2020 with an unnamed woman Roiland was dating. After pleading not guilty, Roiland has undergone some pre-hearings and will return to court in April.

Roiland did not only have his hand in Rick and Morty as he also worked with Hulu as the co-creator of Solar Opposites which he also voices the main character on the series. The series just recently got renewed for a fifth season late last year. He also lends his voice and executive produces on the streamer’s Koala Man animated series so we will wait to see how these projects unfold following the charges.
