TMNT: The Last Ronin Getting Video Game Adaptation
IDW Publishing‘s beloved comic mini-series TMNT: The Last Ronin is getting a video game adaptation. The action RPG of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic series is currently in development and will focus on the alternate universe that tells the grim story of a futuristic world with three out of the four TMNT brothers having died.
The TMNT video game lineup has always carried a lighter and more colorful tone with entries such as TMNT Legends, Mutants in Manhattan, Out of the Shadows, Turtles in Time, and most recently Shredder’s Revenge. The upcoming action RPG will carry a darker, more mature tone than these previous entries very much like we saw in the comic which showed a very dark outlook on our favorite mutant heroes. The tone of the game is further clarified with The Last Ronin being likened to Sony‘s God of War with the game honoring the source material within the comic book arc.
Leading up to the release of the premiere issue, the big question remained as to who the lone remaining turtle was. The lone turtle now donned a black mask and used the weapons of his fallen brothers along with his own. The final pages of the first issue revealed the identity of the remaining turtle while Master Splinter and his brother have all fallen, Michelangelo was the lone survivor hell-bent on getting vengeance for his family. This was both surprising and interesting to see as the fun-loving jokester of the group had a completely different demeanor which many of us never expected to see from Mikey.
The IDW comic was released in 2020 with a five-issue arc from writer Kevin Eastman whose idea was brought to life alongside co-creator Peter Laird. The name of the studio developing the project went unnamed and looks to be a few years away from seeing a release. The game will clearly be tailored to an older audience but the promise of this universe and a AAA video game release should be a very adaptation to look forward to.
Stay tuned as more information on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin video game adaptation is released.
