Top Cow Will Release Three Collectible Covers of The Walking Dead
In celebration of the 20th anniversary of Robert Kirkman‘s iconic series, The Walking Dead, Top Cow has unveiled three collectible variants. These special covers, created by artist Giuseppe Cafaro and colorist John Starr, will connect to form a panoramic masterpiece featuring Top Cow characters alongside the beloved heroes and villains of The Walking Dead.
Cafaro expresses his excitement, stating that being a part of a project with Top Cow has been a dream come true for him. Working alongside John, they managed to bring together the characters from various Top Cow series and the iconic cast of The Walking Dead.
To capture the essence of each book while maintaining a cohesive feel, John Starr employed different color palettes for each variant. For Destiny Gate, he depicted a hellish ambiance, incorporating cool tones and portal-inspired lighting for Antarctica, and utilizing the blue and red hues featured in Haunt You to the End. He also added Giuseppe’s textured splatters and fog to enhance the grit and mood of the covers.
Lee Thomas, the creative director of EP1T0ME, Top Cow’s partner for the series Destiny Gate, expressed his excitement at the chance to resurrect one of the most notorious characters from The Walking Dead universe. Negan, wielding his infamous weapon Lucille, clashes with Destiny Gate protagonist Mitchell Slate, while the menacing character ‘Madness’ looms in the background.
In Antarctica #4, we witness an epic scene as Michonne and the heroic Hannah fight side by side, swords drawn, fending off hordes of zombies. Willi Roberts, the artist behind Antarctica, couldn’t contain his delight at the opportunity to feature Hannah fighting alongside one of his favorite characters from The Walking Dead.
Lastly, the cover for Haunt You to the End #5 showcases the formidable mercenary Gersh in the foreground, struggling against overwhelming odds. In the background, Maggie fights desperately for her life against a horde of ravenous zombies. Glenn, her deceased love, appears as a broken and ghostly figure, adding to the emotional intensity of the scene.
Ryan Cady, the writer of Destiny Gate and Haunt You to the End, commends the artistry of Giuseppe and John for seamlessly merging the worlds of their respective series with the nightmarish post-apocalyptic realm of The Walking Dead.
