The Mandalorian Season 3 Releasing in 2023, Season 4 Already in the Works

Disney‘s Star Wars Celebration revealed that Din Djarin will be returning for The Mandalorian season 3 in 2023. With the upcoming season aiming to premiere in the first few months of next year, many fans are excited to see what awaits Din Djarin and Grogu after they were reunited during The Book of Boba Fett. The upcoming third season will be written by creator Jon Favreau who has also confirmed that season 4 of The Mandalorian is already in the works.

Not many plot details are known regarding the upcoming season but with Din’s appearance in The Book of Boba Fett, we saw his attempts to master the Darksaber and his rights to Mandalore being brought into question after revealing he has removed his helmet. Grogu has also chosen to return to Din and what that will entail moving forward for the two and what adventures this will lead to, will also most likely be touched on.

The upcoming season will star Pedro Pascal, Christopher Lloyd, and Katee Sackhoff. Other cast members, we may see again include Rosario Dawson and Giancarlo Esposito. Carl Weathers will be returning for season 3 but as director.

Favreau’s confirmation of season 4 came during an interview with CinemaBlend during the Star Wars Celebration in which he said:

“With television, we’re very lucky that we don’t have to rush things through into an hour-and-a-half, two hours. We get to tell stories slowly. So now, as Dave [Filoni]’s doing Ahsoka, it’s very much informing the writing that I’m doing for [The Mandalorian] Season 4. It becomes – how should I put it – more precise.”

He continued by saying:

“When I was writing the first season of Mandalorian, I could do anything, set it anywhere. Now we have to figure out why there are certain Mandalorians who wear helmets, certain ones who don’t wear helmets, what’s happening on Mandalore, what’s Bo-Katan doing at the time? How does she feel about that? Where is the Darksaber?”

The Mandalorian season 3 will premiere exclusively on Disney+ in February 2023.
