The Cabinet: New Supernatural Comic Series Coming from Image Comics’ Syzygy

Writer Jordan Hart has teamed up with co-writer David Ebeltoft to bring you The Cabinet, a captivating five-issue miniseries set to debut in February 2024 as part of Image ComicsSyzygy line. With the artwork of up-and-coming artist Chiara Raimondi and the interconnected variant covers by Marguerite Sauvage, a highly acclaimed artist whose talent has been recognized with Eisner, Shuster, Manning, and GLAAD Award nominations, The Cabinet will be a visual experience both on the covers and interior of this new series.

Join Avani, an Indian-American teen, and Trent, a midwestern jock, as they embark on a teleporting mission across a post-Cold War landscape. Their objective? To collect a series of peculiar relics that hold the key to summoning the arcane powers of a resplendent 17th-century cabinet. Why do they need these powers? Well, Avani made a tiny mistake the last time she used the cabinet—a mistake that inadvertently released an ancient evil from its prison and tragically claimed the lives of her parents.

Inspired by medieval Display Cabinets (Kabinettschranks) observed firsthand at a local museum, Hart and Ebeltoft have crafted a story that beautifully blends the baroque aesthetics of a bygone era with a vibrant and supernatural adventure set in the early ’90s. Picture a fusion of Constantine’s dark allure and the relatable charm of Clarissa Explains It All, all presented through the unique, eye-catching lens of Chiara Raimondi’s artistry.

While exploring the occult and embarking on character-driven escapades, the underlying rule for this adventure has always been to have fun. Avani’s encounters with moments of darkness and calamitous situations may be intense, but the emotional journey is balanced with levity. It is this combination of drama and humor that makes the story both engaging and rewarding.

For Raimondi, the opportunity to illustrate The Cabinet has taken her artistry to new heights. She relished the experience of creating unhinged and vivid pages that perfectly complemented the narrative crafted by Hart and Ebeltoft. The result is a visual feast that captures the essence of the story’s fun and unpredictability.

Brace yourself for an intricate tapestry of colors that mirror the wondrous and uproarious challenges that Avani and Trent will face. So dust off your best ’90s outfit and get ready to be captivated!

Embark into the vibrant and magical world of The Cabinet when it arrives at your favorite local comic shop and digitally on February 14, 2024.
