Skydance’s Marvel Game Will Feature Captain America and Black Panther, Teaser Trailer Released
The D23 Expo gave Disney & Marvel Games the platform to unveil the first look at the upcoming Marvel game from Skydance New Media. This will mark Skydance’s first game and while a name and release date were not part of the announcement. The short teaser was more than enough to intrigue fans as we see it will feature Captain America and Black Panther along with two other playable characters. From the trailer, you can also see the game will take place during World War II.
The music, the brochures, and the ambiance of the trailer all point to the era while the camera then pans to what appears to be war documents, a pistol, and a dagger, plus we see Cap’s shield as well as the Hydra insignia. Cap’s shield also shows scratches that very much resemble claw marks from Black Panther and if the final moments of the trailer that show Black Panther and Captain America standing across from each other are any indication, they might not be fighting for the same side.
Given the era, this won’t be T’Challa facing off against Captain America/Steve Rogers but rather his grandfather Azzuri. The game will also feature Gabriel Jones, a member of the Howling Commandos and also the leader of the Wakandan Spy Network, Nanali. The game is a narrative-driven game and all these characters will be playable at different points in the game.
Skydance notes that players can expect:
“Intuitive controls and exhilarating second-to-second gameplay that captures the action and excitement of Marvel, inspired by landmark comics, television, and films, as they navigate this all-new glob-trotting adventure.”
Skydance New Media is led by Amy Hennig who was the creative director and writer for Uncharted 1-3. Hennig shared in a press release that she was grateful for the enthusiasm and support from fans, saying:
“We’re so grateful for all the enthusiasm and support we’ve received from fans, and we’re thrilled to finally unveil a first glimpse of the game during this year’s D23 Expo.
Marvel has been an incredible partner throughout the creative process as we develop an original story and build an exciting new team of characters. We hope fans are intrigued by this sneak peek, and we’re excited to share more down the road.”
Marvel Games vice president and creative director Bill Roseman added:
“Our D23 Expo reveal is only the beginning of the action-packed adventure awaiting Marvel fans. Amy and the Skydance New Media team have a deep love and respect for our characters, have poured themselves into the core comic book inspiration, and will harness their incredible storytelling skills to craft an all-new, thrilling narrative experience. Stay tuned over the next months as we’ll share additional looks at our four heroes, two worlds, and one war.”
Stay tuned as more information is revealed for what could be a new era for Marvel games.
