Showtime Not Moving Forward with Dexter: New Blood Season 2
Showtime brought fans back to another chapter of Dexter Morgan’s murderous tendencies when the 2021 Dexter: New Blood followed up on the hit series Dexter. The plans at the network were for Dexter: New Blood Season 2 to pick up where the previous season left off as Dexter was undoubtedly dead this time around but his son Harrison would potentially be the focus of the second season. According to a report by TVLine, hopes for a second season are gone but the network is not ready to give up on the Dexter universe just yet.
In Dexter: New Blood we saw Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) having retreated from the chaos and death he left behind in Florida and now living a more secluded and isolated life in the cold landscape of Iron Lake. His life begins to become disrupted as he finds his dark passenger making him get his hands bloody once again.
It doesn’t help matters that he is romantically involved with the Police Chief (Julia Jones). His son Harrison (Jack Alcott) enters the picture and it all unravels throughout the season ultimately Chief Bishop puts the pieces together that lead to Dexter being the Bay Harbor Butcher and as he sees it all surface, it all ends with Harrison ending Dexter’s life.
Although we won’t see what happens with Harrison after he flees Iron Lake and the ensuing emotional and mental damage that was sure to be added to his already surfacing issues following the abandonment by Dexter and his mother Rita’s death. There was also the issue of Harrison showing he also had a “dark passenger” although a different version than the one that plagued Dexter. Showtime did note that there are still possibilities within this universe and they are eyeing a possible prequel series focusing on young Dexter Morgan.
As we see what becomes of the series, you can catch up on Dexter and Dexter: New Blood on Showtime.
