Reviewed by Weird – Quick Stops: Anecdotes From the Annals of the Askewniverse
For the better part of the last 20-plus years, I’ve been a huge fan of Kevin Smith. What started as an all-night movie binge at my dear friend Robyn’s house, the content this man makes has been an integral part of my life. So when I heard that he was making the natural progression into getting his own comics imprint, Secret Stash Press through Dark Horse Comics, you bet that you could count me in on any and all comics coming down the pike, including this title, Quick Stops: Anecdotes From the Annals of the Askewniverse.
If you’re unfamiliar with this particular title, here’s a summary:
Following on the heels of Clerks III, the Askewniverse is expanding with Quick Stops—a black-and-white anthology series full of all-new tales of retail from the Jersey world of Kevin Smith’s classic comedies!
Featuring four never-before-told stories from the Quick Stop family of characters that populate Smith’s films Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, and of course, the Clerks trilogy!
This book was incredible! It did a great job of filling in connections and story gaps that the movies didn’t get to, including the early days of Dante and Veronica dating, finding out who Randall’s cousin is (I was blown away, but it makes sense), the secret origin of Lister Fiend and Pillow Pants, and the inspiration behind the creation of Bluntman and Chronic (and how Jay ended up with a Quick Stop Uniform)!
A jack of many trades, but a master of none, Chris dabbles in many nerdy hobbies including toy collecting, reading comics, writing fiction, reading novels, and playing video games. He’s also a huge wrestling fan, and knows more about it than most normal people should.
When he’s not writing or hosting podcasts for Geek Network, he can be found listening to podcasts and hanging out with his wife, his two daughters, and his little dog Gertie.
