I’ve mentioned before that one of the main things that fuels my weird is my extreme love for the sport of Professional Wrestling. What a lot don’t know is I came across it by accident. I was a huge fan of superheroes, and I came across what I thought was live-action superheroes. And really, I wasn’t entirely wrong. But…before I discovered the WWF…I found World Championship Wrestling or WCW.
I was instantly hooked by not only the brightly colored “costumes” and larger-than-life characters, but by the voice of the show, Tony Schiavone, one of the greatest wrestling announcers to ever do it. So I absolutely jumped at the chance to review Butts in Seats: The Tony Schiavone Story!

Here’s the premise:
From teenage wrestling fan to becoming “The Voice of Your Childhood,” famed professional wrestling commentator Tony Schiavone has spent five decades working in the pro wrestling industry… and he’s now sharing his story with the world! This fourteen-chapter graphic novel details observations, anecdotes, and experiences about Tony’s life in professional wrestling as told by Tony himself and illustrated by over two dozen amazing artists from across the world!
From his earliest days with Crockett Promotions. to the rise and fall of WCW, and now his triumphant return with All Elite Wrestling, you can now experience Tony’s life in professional wrestling in a way it’s never been told – or seen – before!

I watched wrestling from when I was a kid, through current times. In that time, there have been some great announcers, but Tony was the voice of my childhood. The way he puts so much emotion and feeling into what he does, you can tell he really loves his job.
And Dirk Manning captured that so incredibly well in this book. As with his Arn Anderson book, he collected stories of one of the greatest in the wrestling business to get behind the microphone, so kids years from now will appreciate this man the way we kids did in the 90s.
If you’re a fan of wrestling, or of Dirk’s writing, definitely get a copy of this book! It’s available at Source Point Press‘s website, or wherever books are sold!

A jack of many trades, but a master of none, Chris dabbles in many nerdy hobbies including toy collecting, reading comics, writing fiction, reading novels, and playing video games. He’s also a huge wrestling fan, and knows more about it than most normal people should.
When he’s not writing or hosting podcasts for Geek Network, he can be found listening to podcasts and hanging out with his wife, his two daughters, and his little dog Gertie.
