New The Last of Us Trailer Shows Fans a Faithful Adaptation is Headed Our Way
HBO has released a brand-new trailer for The Last of Us. The series is just over a month away from premiering on the streaming platform and the new trailer gives fans a more detailed look at the series which boasts comparisons to the video game franchise that should give fans hope of a faithful adaptation. The new trailer touches on the father-son relationship that develops between Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey).
Revealed to the tune of “Take On Me,” the trailer was revealed at CCXP 2022 with new footage as the series brings to life the quarantine zone of The Last of Us universe. Adapting the first entry in the popular video game series that follows Joel smuggling Ellie in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombie-like creatures as a majority of the population falls victim to the fungal infection turning them into these creatures. Ellie seems to be immune to the disease and from there, our journey begins.
HBO‘s description of the series reads:
“The series takes place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.”
Starring alongside Pascal and Ramsay are Anna Torv, Nick Offerman, Gabriel Luna, Murray Bartlett, Melanie Lynskey, Merle Dandridge, Storm Reid, Nico Parker, Jeffrey Pierce as well as Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson who will be making an appearance in the series. Baker and Johnson voiced Joel and Ellie in the video game series.
The first episode of The Last of Us will be directed by Kantemir Balagov. Original game creators Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin are listed as creators for The Last of Us and will also serve as executive producers.
The Last of Us is set to premiere on HBO on January 15, 2023
