Netflix Cancels Inside Job Despite Previous Season 2 Renewal
Netflix has added another original series to the chopping block. The streamer has canceled Inside Job despite previously renewing it for season 2. The news came from series co-creator Shion Takeuchi who shared the unfortunate news via social media. The statement revealed that the series had gotten a renewal from Netflix but they ultimately decided to not move forward with the original series. The first season consisted of two parts totaling 18 episodes.
Netflix has been axing series on their lineup left and right like an intense level of Fruit Ninja with cancelations of popular series including 1899, The Midnight Club, Fate: The Winx Saga, Warrior Nun, Blockbuster, The Bastard Son and the Devil Himself, The Imperfects, and Partner Track.
The animated workplace comedy followed the shadow government organization Cognito, Inc. The company was tasked with creating the world’s conspiracies. The series focused on tech genius Reagan Ridley played by Lizzy Caplan as she tries to balance the stress from her job and familial conflicts with her dad Rand played by Christian Slater.
The series was created by Takeuchi and Alex Hirsch and also starred Brett Gelman, Tisha Campbell, Clark Duke, John DiMaggio, Bobby Lee, Andy Daly, Adam Scott, and Chris Diamantopoulos.
Takeuchi’s social media statement reads:
“I’m heartbroken to confirm that Netflix has decided to cancel season 2 of Inside Job. Over the years, these characters have become real people to me, and I am devastated not to be able to watch them grow up. Reagan and Brett deserved to get their ending and finally find happiness. And I would have loved to been able to share what was in store with you all.
To everyone who watched, thank you for coming along on the ride. Even though I’m sad, it helps to know that there’s people out there who cared just as much about these characters as me.”
The series delivered a clever and charming cast of characters that were perfectly personified by the stellar cast chosen to give them their voice. In a series slammed with comedy animations, Inside Job managed to stand out and was in part to the love and dedication the creators had for the world they were building and that emulated a standout series that was really damn good. You can see that in the heartfelt message from Takeuchi and it is a shame to see a series not get to tell its full story.

Season 1 of Inside Job is available to stream on Netflix.
