Cobra Kai Renewed for Sixth and Final Season
Netflix has renewed Cobra Kai for its sixth and final season. The “Miyagiverse” is set to end after season 6 as was confirmed by Jon Hurwitz who made the announcement via Twitter. He also goes on to thank fans for the support they have shown the series continuation of Karate Kid.
Hurwitz, along with creators of the series, Josh Heald and Hayden Schlossberg said in the statement:
“Reacquainting the world with ‘The Karate Kid’ universe has been our humble honor. Making Cobra Kai has allowed us to join the same hallowed dojo once inhabited by the great Robert Mark Kamen, John Avildsen, Jerry Weintraub, and all the amazing original cast members. It has also enabled us to play sensei, expanding the original storylines and birthing a new generation of underdogs. We’ve never once taken this opportunity for granted.
Originally a YouTube Red series that was released in 2018. The series made its move to the streamer beginning with its third season and has been the recipient of praise and positive reviews from both fans and critics. Continuing the events of Karate Kid, Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio) in adulthood but as we have seen throughout the series, not always the wiser. Johnny has continuously sought redemption and his character has shown immense growth, although not always consistent.
Daniel showed that even with the best intentions, he does not always stand on the right side of things and cannot solve all problems that cross his path alone, the series has also focused on a younger generation of studios for both Cobra Kai, Eagle Fang Karate, and Miyagi-Do who have all gone through different hardships and been on both sides of lessons learned with ass-kicking and karate brawls sprouting up and down the town.
The creators shared more with fans, saying:
“Our day one goal with Cobra Kai has always been to end it on our terms, leaving the Valley in the time and place we’ve always imagined. So it is with immense pride and thankfulness that we are able to announce that achievement. The upcoming Season Six will mark the conclusion of Cobra Kai. While this may be a bittersweet day for the fandom, the Miyagiverse has never been stronger. This fandom is the BEST on the planet and we hope to be telling more Karate Kid stories with you down the line. Because as we all know, Cobra Kai Never Dies.”
Cobra Kai stars Zabka, Macchio, Courtney Henggeler, Xolo Maridueña, Tanner Buchanan, and Mary Mouser, plus many others.
Cobra Kai does not have a release date for its upcoming season but stay tuned as more information is revealed on what you can expect from the upcoming seasons and a possible release date.
