Mr. No Presents: Tokyo Revengers

How’s it going? Manga fans and geeks from around the world I was asked to talk about my favorite anime pic of 2023, if you like action and time, travel, biker gangs, aka delinquents as the term used in Japan. My favorite pic is Tokyo Revengers due to the fact that it has Back To the Future vibes because the main protagonist time travels between his future self in his 20s. To his early teen, delinquent self.

Before we delve deeper, here’s the premise of Tokyo Revengers:

Takemichi Hanagaki is a freelancer who’s reached the absolute pits of despair in his life. He finds out that the only girlfriend he ever had, in middle school, Hinata Tachibana, had been killed by the ruthless Tokyo Manji Gang. The day after hearing about her death, he’s standing on the station platform and ends up being pushed over onto the tracks by a herd of people. He closes his eyes thinking he’s about to die, but when he opens his eyes back up, he somehow has gone back in time 12 years. Now that he’s back living the best days of his life, Takemichi decides to get revenge on his life.

Myself being a huge Back to the Future fan and love the science behind time travel, this anime had everything that I enjoyed in a time travel anime, love, action, suspense, and drama combined with real Bosozoku biker gang culture. That is based on Ken Wakul‘s stories from his youth tied into this manga along with the gang’s culture from the early 80s biker gangs, majority of of you fans probably knew about it before I did.

I just happened to stumble upon the TV series on a streaming service and started watching it and behold I’ve binge-watched the whole first season immediately. I’m excited to see what the next season brings. I hope you all are too!

Tokyo Revengers has gained widespread popularity since its first season streamed on Crunchyroll from April to September 2021. The second season, Tokyo Revengers Christmas Showdown Arc premiered on Disney+ in January and continued until April.

Now, we all eagerly await the upcoming season of Tokyo Revengers, titled the Tenjiku Arc. Set to premiere on Japanese TV on October 3 at 24:00, viewers can catch the latest episodes on Disney+ a few hours later at 3 AM on October 4.
