Edge Makes AEW Debut at WrestleDream
WWE Hall of Famer Adam Copeland, known as Edge, has officially joined All Elite Wrestling (AEW). The wrestling veteran made his AEW debut on October 1st during the final moments of the WrestleDream pay-per-view.
Edge emerged at the end of a match, where his former tag team partner Christian Cage secured a victory over Darby Allin to claim the TNT Championship. As Allin and Sting found themselves overwhelmed by a vicious beatdown from Christian, Luchasaurus, and the newly turned heel Nick Wayne, Edge came to the rescue, confronting his former partner.
While Edge is unable to use his WWE moniker, he will still be recognized as the ‘Rated R Superstar‘ in AEW, and also keeping his iconic ‘Metalingus‘ theme. His journey with WWE concluded in August, when he triumphed over Sheamus in Toronto, marking his last match under the company.
Tony Khan, the CEO of AEW, swiftly welcomed Copeland to the team, declaring him ‘All Elite’ through a tweet on X. Copeland reciprocated the sentiment and shared his appreciation for WWE in a heartfelt message to his fans on the platform. Explaining that sometimes relationships simply outgrow each other, Copeland expressed his desire for new opportunities and further growth. He emphasized that his love and support for his friends in WWE would persist.
Copeland’s move to AEW has been in the making for four years, as Khan had initially sought his appearance at the inaugural Dynamite event in 2019. Although there was substantial interest, Edge eventually returned to WWE at the time.
With his arrival in AEW, Copeland now embarks on an exciting chapter of his career. The possibility of a rivalry between him and his long-time tag partner and best friend, Christian Cage, is on the horizon.
