Allen Dunford Lets Slip the Magic Behind Pocus Hocus

Allen Dunford is one of the CEOs and half of the creative minds behind Top Hat Studios and is the co-creator and writer of such titles as Horus in Hell, Grandma Chainsaw, Pocus Hocus, and a ton more!

I got the chance to sit down with Allen and talk about what he’s celebrating this month, what it was that inspired him to become a writer, and where he gets his ideas from!  We also chat about no ideas being bad ideas, sometimes the best ideas are the craziest ones, how important it is to have someone in your corner when you’re creating, how the pandemic Kickstarter his writing career, and much more!

I also asked about his new partnership as the lead writer for The Geek Collective, what we can see from him in the future including when we are going to see more of Pocus Hocus, Horus in Hell, Grandma Chainsaw, we talk about new series that are on the way including one he described as a mix between Dexter and Sweeney Todd, and any advice he may have for up and coming creatives!

Allen’s creator-owned title Pocus Hocus #1, featuring his other co-writer and creator Will Radford, illustration by Brian Balondo, colors by Jasen Smith, and Dave Lentz on lettering and Design, is coming to comic stores this October 25th!  If you are not familiar with the story, here’s the premise:

Pocus Hocus is the story of a Victorian-era magician named – you guessed it – Pocus Hocus, who sells his soul to a demon in exchange for actual magic powers. Years later, he comes to regret his decision, and sets out to reclaim his soul. Issue One chronicles Pocus’s rise to fame, the selling of his soul, and his need to get it back. It’s going to be one hell of a good time.

Make sure to contact your local shop and ask them to pick up this book!  Trust me, you’re not going to want to miss this one!
