Wolven Press is set to bring a new project to Kickstarter titled Mixology Noir: Book One. The new comic will feature a double feature of stories that will open the door to a series of stories designed to be inspired by cocktails and the impact it has on people.

As the creator of the 76-page double feature puts it:
“Cocktails have a rich, storied history. Each has an origin, a feeling it inspires in it’s drinkers, and an identity unto itself. As long as alcohol has existed, humans have mixed it, consumed it, and dealt with it’s effects.
Sometimes those effects are joyous, othertimes disasterous. I wanted to write a series of stories inspired by those cocktails and their impact on people.
There is no aspect of human nature, history, or mythology that doesn’t mix well with an ounce of bourbon or a shot of vodka. Garnish with some horror, strain through noir, and serve straight up.”
Book one will feature two stories titled Sazerac and Vesper, featuring the talents of writer, letterer, and designer Evan Carothers who teams up with artist Vlad Vov and colorist Wem 7 for Sazerac as well as artist Martin Gimenez and Ichsan Ansori for Vesper.
Check out the description for both stories below:
“SAZERAC: After fighting with his wife, a man seeking a drink finds himself in a mysterious bar populated with long-forgotten gods. He quickly learns the price of overindulgence as their influences interweave with the effects of the alcohol.”
“VESPER: An entitled woman gets a fresh outlook on the meaning of family after stopping for a “quick vodka” turns ugly-with her being chained to a pipe in the basement, held captive by a Russian kidnapping ring.”
Mixology Noir: Book One will also feature the talents of Adrian Bonilla, Diego Porto, and Alex Amoruso who provide additional art and variant covers, and editor Eric Palicki. This only marks the beginning for the indie publisher as 2023 will not only bring readers Mixology Noir: Book One but also Book Two of Mixology Noir as well as a post-apocalyptic tale “TOXX”, and a cyberpunk action series “THE DUKE OF DEEPTOWN”.
Sazerac, which is the title of our first story and drink within that story shows an issue in a relationship most certainly everyone has dealt with at one point, but not many of us walk into a hole-in-a-wall bar with gods as patrons and a barkeep which may very well not be the godsend our protagonist was hoping for. Only a few pages in, and you’ll find yourself reaching for a drink as the tension builds on this story at the turn of every page.
Vesper holds much more mystery within its initial pages but the allure of the characters and the story slowly pulling away layers and hopefully, some answers within that, is more than enough to keep flipping for the next page. Much like a good drink, these stories deliver a mix of flavors that readers are sure to embrace every sip of and have them coming back to pour another until we reach the bottom of the bottle, or in this case, the final page.
Mixology Noir: Book One will be available exclusively via Kickstarter. Check out their official page to be notified when the campaign goes live and secure your copy of Book One along with other rewards.
