Little Bird Prequel Series, Precious Metal Coming to Image Comics

The Eisner Award-winning team of writer Darcy Van Poelgeest and artist Ian Bertram, known for their work on Little Bird, are set to launch their latest project, Precious Metal, a six-issue miniseries scheduled to debut in June from Image Comics.

What sets Precious Metal apart is that each issue of the miniseries will be double-length, resulting in a total page count of nearly 300 pages of story across all six issues. The first issue will feature a cover B with stunning wraparound artwork by Tradd Moore.

Little Bird Prequel Series

This new series set 35 years before the events of Little Bird, Vol. 1: The Fight For Elder’s Hope, follows disillusioned mod-tracker Max Weaver. His routine hunt for a modified child takes an unexpected turn, leading to an encounter with an unpredictable mod who may hold the key to unlocking his missing memories.

As the story unfolds, Max will discover that he’s not the only one interested in the child’s unique abilities, and delving deeper into the mystery may come at a great cost.

Van Poelgeest expressed his enthusiasm, stating:

“Precious Metal has been the biggest, and most fulfilling, undertaking of my creative career.” He emphasized the deep collaboration with Ian Bertram and the transformative results achieved during the creation of this series.

Bertram also shared his sentiments saying,

“Precious Metal has been an undertaking to say the least, with our guiding principle being to make the best book we possibly can.” He highlighted the deeply personal nature of the story and the dedication invested by everyone involved.

Little Bird is a dystopian sci-fi series, which follows a young resistance fighter as she battles against an oppressive American Empire while navigating the search for her own identity in a world engulfed in turmoil.

With the same expansive scope as Star Wars and the thought-provoking social-political explorations of A Handmaid’s Tale, Little Bird showcases one girl’s courageous quest to risk everything in order to save her people, their land, and the freedom they so desperately deserve.

Precious Metal #1 will be available at your favorite local comic book shops on Wednesday, June 5th.
