The first season of Loki definitely had big implications to the MCU moving forward. Moving forward we will be able to witness the creation of the multiverse we love in Marvel comics. The multiverse was smashed open through the direction of Loki season 1 director Kate Herron, who was a major force behind the project. Sadly, she will not return for the second season.

She confirmed the news herself in an interview with Deadline saying, “I’m not returning. I always planned to be just on for this, and to be honest, Season 2 wasn’t in the — that’s something that just came out, and I’m so excited. I’m really happy to watch it as a fan next season, but I just think I’m proud of what we did here and I’ve given it my all. I’m working on some other stuff yet to be announced.”

In true Marvel fashion, not even the director of the series knew there would be a second season when they made the series. When asked if she would be involved with another Marvel movie she said, “No, I’m just focused on my own stuff at the moment. I love Marvel and I’d love to work with them again, but my outing with Loki is what I’ve done with them.”

There are of course no details to share for season 2 as we will wait for the implications of the season 1 finale to trickle into the upcoming slate of films and series slated to release this year and 2022, but we can certainly work out our own rumors in the meantime. It will be interesting to see how this plays into the upcoming films, and to see how all the events that unfold play into what we can expect to see in a second season of Loki.
