Starz recently made significant changes to its TV lineup. One of those decisions according to a report from Variety led to the cancellation of Heels, a wrestling drama starring Stephen Amell and Alexander Ludwig. Despite airing its second season finale just two weeks ago, the show will not be returning for a third season.
Alongside Heels, Starz also canceled two other original series, namely Run the World and Blindspotting, which is a spinoff of the acclaimed 2018 film. Additionally, the network reportedly decided to pull the plug on The Venery of Samantha Bird, a series that had yet to be premiered.
In Heels, Amell and Ludwig portrayed two brothers who were both rivals and partners in scripted wrestling matches, vying for a promotion within their father’s wrestling empire. The cast included Mary McCormack, Chris Bauer, Allen Maldonado, Kelli Berglund, Alice Barrett Mitchell, Trey Tucker, Robby Ramos, and more.
The second season of Heels concluded with a cliffhanger, as Jack, one of the main characters, was seemingly paralyzed after performing a dangerous Shooting Star Press from the top rope. The shocking season 2 finale will now go unanswered as the season finale now serves as the series finale.
While the cancellation of Heels and the other shows is undoubtedly disappointing for fans, it may not be much of a surprise considering the bumpy road that the second season of Heels had towards it finally premiering this year. The series was also met with mixed reviews. Undoubtedly an intriguing series with the Spade brothers and the DWL winning over the hearts of many, ours included. There is always hope of the series finding a new home.
