G.I. Joe: Wrath of Cobra Brings Classic Heroes to Side-Scrolling Brawler Game
The iconic G.I. Joe franchise is coming back in an action-packed adventure in the upcoming game, G.I. Joe: Wrath of Cobra. Developed by Maple Powered Games and published by Freedom Games, this highly anticipated title is set to be released during the first quarter of 2024.
G.I. Joe: Wrath of Cobra brings to life the beloved G.I. Joe universe in a 2D side-scrolling game, featuring legendary characters like Duke, Scarlett, Snake Eyes, and Roadblock. As players, you will take on the role of these heroes as they face off against their arch-nemesis, Cobra Commander, and his ruthless minions that will take you across iconic locations like Cobra Island and the Pit.

The game will feature both a story mode and an arcade mode. Whether you prefer solo play or teaming up with friends, you can take on Cobra Commander with friends in online and couch co-op for up to four players.
Eugene Evans, SVP Digital Strategy and Licensing at Hasbro, expressed the excitement surrounding the project, saying:
“G.I. Joe is one of the most iconic brands from the 80s, and it was the golden era of arcade games. To celebrate the growing popularity of retro-themed games, we’re thrilled to partner with Maple Powered Games and Freedom Games to bring G.I. Joe fans our first-ever Hasbro Retro Arcade experience in this exciting interpretation of a classic 2D beat ‘em up.”

G.I. Joe: Wrath of Cobra emphasizes fluid combat with combo attacks, nimble dodging, and well-timed parries put together in a retro hand-drawn pixel art style and immersive classic cartoon cutscenes.
Accompanying your journey through the game, an arcade-inspired soundtrack by Tee Lopes (known for his work on Sonic Mania, TMNT Shredder’s Revenge, and Streets of Rage 4 – Mr. X Nightmare DLC) and Crush 40 lead vocalist Johnny Gioeli (whose vocal talents have graced Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020) will set the perfect tone.

G.I. Joe is also seeing its comic universe expand as Skybound Entertainment and Hasbro team up for the introduction of the Energon Universe that sees G.I. Joe and Transformers universes colliding. It all started with Void Rivals #1 and Skyboud recently revealed the first look at Transformers #1 with Duke #1 and Cobra Commander #1 following shortly in the coming months.
G.I. Joe: Wrath of Cobra will be released on Nintendo Switch and PC in 2024. Check out the trailer below:
